1st Tank: First stage Purification Filtration System is the Hercules Whole House Filter Removing iron, sulfur, chlorine, manganese, smelly odor, bad taste, staining, sediment, and particulate indefinitely - with no filter media changes!

Anthracite (stage 1) Although its potential for water treatment has been recognized since ancient times, anthracite coal was not used for that purpose until the beginning of this century. Crushed anthracite makes an excellent medium density filtration media. Anthracite has been manufactured from the finest Pennsylvania coal since 1932. It is specifically selected for water treatment, and during its production goes through several sizing inspections. Random samples are chosen for a complete laboratory quality control analysis for effective size, uniformity coefficient, specific gravity, acid solubility, and hardness. Because of its fractured shape, some sediment penetrates deeper into the bed. When compared to equivalent filter sands., this means longer filter runs and less head loss. Backwash rates are also reduced. Pyrolusite (stage 2) is a granular water filtration media used for the removal of hydrogen sulfide, iron and manganese. Through a natural chemical reaction, Pyrolusite has the ability to help you produce clean, high-quality water. Pyrolusite works because of a catalyst reaction whereby hydrogen sulfide, iron, and manganese are oxidized on the media. Daily backwashing then flushes trapped particulate from the filter bed. Pyrolusite is a natural mineral form of manganese dioxide, making it an environmentally sound means of water filtration.

2nd Tank: For Removal of Bad Tastes, Odors, Chlorine, and Organics such as THM's; and Inorganics such as Lead. By combining the patented redox media "KDF®-55" (stage 3) with granular activated coconut shell carbon (stage4), a synergy exists which dramatically increases the effective life of the carbon. "KDF®-55" media removes the inorganic contaminants such as lead and other heavy metals... a function which carbon alone cannot do.  In the fourth stage, chlorine, volatile organic chemicals (VOC's) such as THM's bad tastes and odors, are removed by adsorption into the bed of granular coconut shell activated carbon These form a maze of tortuous paths through which the water flows. These serve as "capture spaces" for the contaminants at ppm and ppb ionic sizes. Dual Media - KDF®-55 and premium coconut shell granulated activated carbon, or "GAC", inhibits the growth of bacteria, algae, and fungus inside the unit. (EPA registration #066427-FL-001) KDF ®-55/"Premium Coconut Shell GAC" also removes chlorine, lead, mercury, and other heavy metals.  Activated Coconut Shell Carbon also removes volatile organic chemicals (VOC's), pesticides, herbicides, insecticides, bad tastes and odors, and chlorine.

Stage Five: A 1-micron filter cartridge in a 10-inch housing to remove parasites (cryptosporidium, giardia lamblia) and finer particulate down to 1-micron size. The only maintenance required is to insert a new filter cartridge into the final filter housing once a year.

Automatic Backwash:  With proper backwashing, your system can last over a million gallons for a family of 4 up to 10 years! The first Iron Sulfur Chlorine Filter tank will last indefinitely. The 2nd Purification Filtration System tank has a repack filter media kits for lifetime use. Backwash frequency depends on your water quality

 

3rd Tank:  Optional   Arsenic and Fluoride Enhanced purification filtration filter has a State-of-the-Art blend of 2 media specifically formulated for selectively removing Arsenic, Fluoride, & Heavy Metals. Can be re-packed.

 

Optional Chlorine Pre-treatment - When do you need it?

Most homes do not need this pre-filter, but if you have WELL WATER, or a problem with you municipal water supply, you will need a Chlorine Pre-Treatment System installed before first tank of any whole house filter system if you have:

-  Bacteria, e.g. Iron bacteria, sulfur bacteria, E. Coli, coliform

-  Iron and/or sulfur level over 3 parts ppm

-  Tannins, mold, mildew & algae.

Note:  Some of the above materials may coat filter media, stopping it's catalytic action because no contact is actually made with its surface. Chlorine is needed to keep the filter media clean. This media itself will remove the Chlorine and keep it out of your water. All you need for Chlorine is inexpensive household bleach. Average use about 1 gallon per month.
